Our als story
Sarah’s connection to the ALS community is deeply personal. After her father, Tom, was diagnosed with ALS in 2016, her life took an unexpected turn. Sarah stepped away from her early career in broadcast journalism to help care for him, gaining firsthand insight into the emotional, physical, and practical realities of family caregiving.
That season became part of her life’s work: using her voice to raise awareness, support families, and honor her father’s legacy through advocacy and storytelling.
Tom Trott passed in October 2021, but his legacy continues. Sarah is actively involved with both local and national ALS organizations to support research, uplift caregivers, and create more visibility for the families navigating this disease. Sarah also served as a board member of Hope Loves Company for three years — an organization focused on supporting children and young adults impacted by ALS.
A story that became a Mission
What began as a family diagnosis became a lifelong commitment to awareness, caregiving support, and creating spaces where ALS families feel less alone.
Caregiver’s
Community
Sarah received an outpour of support after sharing her family’s battle with ALS and the realities of becoming a young caregiver on Season 25 of The Bachelor. Her story resonated with thousands of messages from young women facing similar experiences — many trying to support a parent, partner, or loved one while also learning how to navigate their own lives.
That response inspired Sarah to cultivate a safe space for connection and unite caregivers. Since January 2021, Sarah’s group has amassed nearly 1,000 members and continues to offer connection, mentorship, and resources. Sarah shares personal stories and family photos to help normalize caregiving, spark awareness, and remind others they are not alone.
